Why is it important to file a police report after an Atlanta car crash?

When police come to the scene of an Atlanta traffic accident, an officer will write an official police report about the accident.  You can ask the officer how to get a copy of the official police report once it is filed.
 
Police reports contain the following information: 
 
• The officer’s observations at the scene
• The officer’s opinion about what caused the accident
• Any citations issued
 
Insurance companies may use this information to determine liability.  Many insurance companies will require a police report before they offer a settlement.
 
If a police officer did not come to the scene of your Georgia car crash, you can still obtain a police report.  It is up to you (and any other driver involved) to report the accident to the police at the police station closest to the Georgia accident scene.  After you file the report, you will be able to request a copy.
