Q
What type of doctor do I need to see if I think I have a brain injury?

A

A mild closed head injury is any type of injury to the brain that caused permanent damage.  A concussion is an example of mild brain injury.  Typically if one is believed to be suffering from a mild traumatic brain injury, than they visit a neuropsychologist that does cognitive perceptual motor testing.  These are standardized testing that evaluate the function of different areas of the brain and show any abnormalities throughout the brain.  These tests can be done several times to show accurate findings.  The tests are designed to increase in difficulty so the doctor can pinpoint one's weaknesses.  One test is number sequencing. The patient sees a card and then tries to remember these numbers. Somebody who is mild brain injured may only be able to remember four or five numbers whereas a normal person might remember seven, eight, or nine. One with a mild brain injury typically can only remember four or five numbers whereas a normal person might remember seven to nine.
