Infant Flatware Recalled

When we purchase consumer items for our children’s use, we expect them to be safe to be used as intended. The people who design, manufacture, and sell products for consumer use owe a duty to the people who buy their products to make sure that their products do not present an unreasonable risk of injury. Unfortunately, however, this is not always the case, and every year people are injured by negligently designed, manufactured, or marketed. Products marketed to children have to be particularly safe, due to the fact that children are often incapable of recognizing the risks that common objects pose. When a person is injured by a consumer product, the may be able to recover through a products liability lawsuit. The attorneys of the Law Offices of Shane Smith are dedicated to helping people injured by consumer products, and strive to obtain the best possible outcome for each client we represent.

The United States Consumer Products Safety Commission recently announced a recall on its website regarding Reed and Barton Gingham forks and spoons for babies. According to the website, the products pose a choking hazard because the pieces of the bunny at the end of the spoon can come off, potentially into an infant’s mouth. The product is sold in three different ways:

  • The infant spoon by itself
  • In a set including both the spoon and the fork
  • A three-piece set including the spoon, the fork, and a bib

While no injuries have yet been reported, the company issued a recall after receiving one report of the bunny’s ears coming off of the spoon. Reed and Barton is offering a full refund or replacement flatware for consumers who purchased the product.
