20-Year-Old Dies in Roswell Car Crash, Roommate in Critical Condition

Posted on Aug 08, 2012

A tragic auto accident in Roswell occurred on Sunday, July 22, 2012, claiming the life of a 20-year-old man. This late Sunday night crash off Riverside Road, near Northcliff Trace, killed driver Samuel Wiggins, of Roswell. According to the Roswell Police Department, the fatal wreck was a single-car accident.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that Wiggins ran his car off Riverside Road and hit a tree. Lisa Holland, the Roswell Police Department Spokeswoman, said that excessive speed played a part in this deadly crash, and that the car hit the tree with a “horrific impact.”

Wiggins was driving a Honda Accord just before midnight when he left the roadway and crashed. Dillon Rigsby, 19, was a passenger in Wiggins’ car at the time of the crash. Authorities have indicated that Rigsby suffered life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition. Officials first reported the two men were brothers, but later learned that Rigsby was Wiggins’ roommate.

When rescue workers arrived on scene, they found the car nearly over an embankment, and had to secure the vehicle with a rope so that it did not fall over the embankment.

Investigators still are waiting on toxicology results to find out if alcohol or drugs were a factor in this wreck. Sadly, Wiggins is dead and Rigsby is still hospitalized in critical condition.

The road was reopened around 2:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Our Roswell personal injury lawyers at the Law Offices of Shane Smith are deeply saddened to hear of this tragic crash. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Samuel Wiggins and wish Dillon Rigsby a full and speedy recovery.
