4-Car Crash in Atlanta Sends Car into Restaurant and 3 to Hospital

Posted on Oct 15, 2012

On Wednesday, September 26, 2012, a traffic accident in Atlanta occurred near Moreland and East Confederate avenues. According to police, the crash took place on Wednesday morning around 7:45 a.m. in southeast Atlanta.

This chain-reaction crash resulted in three people being transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with injuries and an SUV crashing into a nearby restaurant. The restaurant in Atlanta that was significantly damaged from the wreck is Zesto. Fortunately, no one was inside the building at the time of the crash.

Authorities indicated that four vehicles were involved in this traffic accident, including a Lincoln Navigator, a Ford Expedition, a pickup truck, and an Audi automobile. It appeared that three of these vehicles were headed east on Confederate Avenue and were waiting at the traffic light in line when the Ford Expedition, driven by Betty Jean Clark, 55, struck all three vehicles. Police have stated that the driver of the Expedition was traveling southbound on Moreland Avenue and made a right turn onto Confederate Avenue when the accident occurred.

Upon impact, 33-year-old Shemicka Nichole Fillmore, who was in her Navigator waiting at the light, was propelled into the restaurant, said Senior Georgia State Patrol Trooper Larry Schnall. The Navigator “travelled airborne into the building, causing significant damage to the establishment,” said Schnall.

Police are trying to determine if speed was involved, if someone else caused the Expedition driver to lose control, or if an improper turn caused this chain-reaction crash.

Three of the four drivers were injured; however, it is reported that the injuries are not life-threatening, and Schnall indicated that the injuries were believed to be minor.

The Law Offices of Shane Smith wish all the victims of this crash a fast and full recovery.
