The beginning of one man’s week turned deadly and other drivers were subject to long traffic delays after a two-car accident on Interstate 75. One car overturned and portions of the highway were shut down for several hours. This Cobb County crash occurred Monday, October 8, 2012, just after noon. According to authorities, this traffic accident between two vehicles took place on I-75 near the South Marietta Parkway exit.
According to Officer Michael Gardner with Marietta police, two vehicles were traveling northbound on I-75 at the time of the accident. A Cobb County man was driving a cream-colored Jeep Wrangler and struck a Dodge pickup truck. Upon impact, the Jeep overturned. The driver of the Jeep was ejected from his vehicle.
When emergency responders arrived at the accident scene, they transported the driver of the Jeep to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta in critical condition for medical treatment. According to reports, the pickup driver was not injured in this crash.
Sadly, the injured Jeep driver later died of his injuries. He has been identified as 34-year-old Delaney Floyd, of Kennesaw.
Police blocked the three right lanes of the interstate for an investigation lasting several hours following the accident, and have stated they are not sure who caused the accident. Charges remain pending at this time.
As a Georgia personal injury lawyer with the Law Offices of Shane Smith, I am saddened to hear of this tragic news and send my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Delaney Floyd.
