Eight Students Injured in Grady High School Bus Accident

Posted on May 04, 2013

On the morning of Monday, April 22, 2013, an Atlanta Public School bus was involved in an accident that caused injuries to some children aboard the bus. According to officials, the school bus that was involved in this Atlanta bus accident was carrying students to Grady High School at the time of the collision.

School spokesman Stephen Alford indicated that eight students on the bus suffered minor injuries and were transported to Grady Hospital for medical treatment. Although no information has been released about the type of injuries the children suffered, school officials expect that all students should be released from the hospital on the same day of the accident. The remaining students who did not suffer any injuries were picked up by another school bus and transported to an area school.

This collision took place on capital Avenue near the I-20 off-ramp and involved a taxi van. Police stated that it appeared 37-year-old Mensur A. Ahmmed, the taxi driver, was making a left-hand turn and pulled out in front of the school bus when the traffic light changed. The taxi spun out upon impact and collided into a brick wall at MLK Jr. Drive.

Police charged Ahmmed with improper turn and failing to yield, and 41-year-old Tamika Render-Pate was charged for driving the school bus without a license on her person.

The previous day, a MARTA bus crash occurred in northwest Atlanta, near Joseph E. Boone Boulevard and Troy Street around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning. According to police, a black Land Rover rear-ended the MARTA bus. One passenger on the bus complained of back pain and was taken to an area hospital for medical care.

The Law Offices of Shane Smith wish all those injured in these Georgia bus accidents full and fast recoveries.
