Fatal Georgia Motorcycle Accident Involves Semi-Truck on I-75

On September 12, 2013, a motorcycle operator was killed in a metro Atlanta interstate crash in Henry County. This fatal Stockbridge, Georgia motorcycle accident occurred around noon on I-75 northbound and involved a semi-truck.

Henry County Police say this Thursday afternoon crash took place on Interstate 75, just north of Hudson Bridge Road exit, and closed several of the interstate’s southbound lanes and all the northbound lanes for some time due to the accident investigation and clean-up.

According to reports, the motorcycle and tractor-trailer were traveling in the southbound lanes prior to the crash but moved into the northbound lanes when they collided. This is because the impact caused both the motorcycle and semi to go over the highway’s median. Officials indicated that the semi slid for about a half-mile in the northbound lanes before coming to a rest, and debris flew over the median.

Sadly, the motorcycle rider died in the crash; however, the truck driver reported no immediate injuries. The cause of the wreck wasn’t exactly clear, as this crash is still being investigated by the Henry County Police Department. The identity of the motorcyclist hasn’t been released.

The northbound lanes of I-75 were shut down at the 224 northbound, and traffic was re-routed. Traffic was backed up for about seven miles northbound, and traffic was congested for about three miles in the southbound direction, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. However, the Henry County Police Department announced that all the lanes were re-opened by 4 p.m.
