The morning after the Fourth of July was a deadly morning for one pedestrian. According to police, a woman was hit and killed in a Fulton County pedestrian accident early Thursday morning. The tragic crash occurred on July 5, 2012, around 5:30 a.m. on Campbellton Road.
Fulton County Police spokesman Scott McBride said that the female pedestrian was walking alone along Campbellton Road Southwest, west of Fulton Industrial Boulevard, when she was hit by a vehicle. The driver of the car did stop and call 911.
When emergency crews arrived on the accident scene, they rushed the victim to Grady Memorial Hospital for care; however, she succumbed to her injuries. The victim was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m. We do know that she was in her late 30’s, but her name has not been released at this time.
It currently is unknown whether the driver of the car will be charged. Police indicated that it was dark outside when the fatal pedestrian accident occurred, and that Campbellton Road is not lit and does not have a crosswalk where the crash occurred.
Campbellton Road was closed for several hours near the accident scene for crash investigation and clean-up. Crews reopened the road around 7:40 a.m.
