Georgia Drunk Driving Victims Include Two College Park Officers

Posted on Feb 17, 2013

Three people became victims of a Georgia DUI crash in College Park and two of the victims involved are officers of the law. According to the Georgia State Patrol, a drunk driver rear-ended a patrol vehicle, pushing it into another patrol car ahead. The civilian driver who was intoxicated at the time he caused the crash has been charged with DUI and other crimes.

This College Park multiple vehicle accident took place around 7:10 p.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013, on Camp Creek Parkway near Washington Road. According to reports, two College Park police officers were sitting at a traffic stop when their cars were hit. Driver 58-year-old Arelious Robert Cooper, of Atlanta, struck the officer’s car in the rear with his 2003 Toyota Camry.

The impact injured the two police officers. They have been identified as 26-year-old J.W. Deake and 28-year-old K. Pogorzelski. After the crash, they were taken to Atlanta Medical Center where they were treated and released.

Cooper’s passenger, 47-year-old Patience Yvonne Hendrix, of Smyrna, was also injured in this crash. She was transported to Grady Memorial for treatment. There were no reports of Cooper suffering any injuries. However, he was taken to College Park Jail and charged with a DUI, reckless driving, and failure to move over when approaching a stopped emergency vehicle.

The Law Offices of Shane Smith wishes all the Georgia drunk driving victims that suffered injuries in this crash a full and fast recovery, and we would like to remind all Georgia motorists to never drive drunk.
