Four people were injured in a high-speed, head-on car accident in Dacula. One woman is in critical condition.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Braselton Highway and Spout Springs Road on Saturday, May 14, at about 8:30 p.m. On that evening, police were called to the area in response to a report of a possibly drunk driver.
Police tried to stop the driver and he sped away and caused the crash.
Witnesses report that the vehicle that caused the accident was driving north on Braselton Highway at a high rate of speed. The driver clipped another car and the crossed the center line into the southbound line where he struck a second car head-on.
Both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles and had to be extricated. The driver that caused the accident was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with serious injuries.
It took more than an hour for rescue workers to extricate the driver of the car that was hit head-on. The lower extremities of the driver, a woman from Buford, were tangled in the wreckage. She was flown to Grady Hospital in Atlanta and remains in the intensive care unit in critical condition.
Two occupants of the car that was clipped also sustained injuries and were transported to an area hospital.
The accident remains under investigation.
