Young mother killed by I-20 Atlanta dunk driver

Posted on Sep 06, 2010

A family is mourning a young woman who was killed in an Atlanta car crash involving a drunk driver.

The accident occurred at 3:37 a.m. on Friday, September 4.  Twenty-one-year-old Angel Rivers and three of her friends were driving a Chrysler Concord west bound on Interstate 20 Martin Luther King Junior exit when their car was rear-ended by a 2006 BMW M6 travelling at excessive speed. Ms. Rivers was ejected from her vehicle.  The other women were trapped until a soldier was able to help them out of the vehicle.   Minutes later, the car exploded.  Rivers died from injuries sustained when she ejected from the vehicle. Her friends sustained serious injuries.

Donis Alexander Hodges, 24, was charged with driving under the influence (Georgia DUI), first-degree homicide by vehicle, following too closely and reckless driving, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Hodges was taken to an area hospital for evaluation of his injuries and was later taken to Fulton County
Jail.  Bond was denied.

Ms. Rivers was the mother of a toddler son.

The staff at The Law Offices of Shane Smith offer our condolences to Ms. Rivers' family.
