A Clayton County police officer was seriously injured after his vehicle in an I-675 car crash.
The accident occurred on the morning of Thursday, January 6, 2011 on 1-675 South just south of Anvil Road. Police sergeant Clinton Nicholas was following a Department of Transportation truck that was on a road project when he was rear-ended by a five-ton box truck driven.
Thirty-eight-year-old Nicholas, of Jonesboro, GA, was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. On Thursday afternoon, he was listed in stable condition.
The driver of the truck, thirty-two-year-old Nicolas Veasley, of Madison, is facing charges for the accident. Charges include: causing serious injury by vehicle, following too closely, and driving too fast for conditions.
It is not unusual for policemen and others to be injured in car accidents while on-the-job. In fact, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of workplace fatalities and injuries. Those who are injured in Atlanta on-the-job traffic accidents may be eligible for Georgia Worker’s Compensation, but collecting Worker’s compensation does not prevent accident victims from claim benefits from other sources.
