According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a 25-year-old woman was killed when her SUV was struck by a runaway trailer carrying a home gym. The trailer reportedly came unhitched from a pickup truck and drifted into oncoming traffic, striking the SUV in the driver's door. The woman subsequently lost control and struck a tree.
Georgia Patrol investigators believed the trailer hitch ball may have been too small for the trailer. Additional precautions were not taken, such as having a supplemental safety chain attaching the trailer. It was also believed that the home gym may have exceeded the recommended maximum weight for the trailer.
