Two southbound lanes of Interstate 85 near the 44-mile marker were shut down for about 20 minutes Monday afternoon because of a car accident.

The Coweta County Fire Department responded just before 5 p.m. to find a vehicle on the edge of the woods off the Interstate, according to Mitch Coggin, assistant chief. There were three people in the accident, two were outside the vehicle and one was still in when rescue workers arrived.

The third individual was removed, but was not trapped in the vehicle. All three were in stable condition and transported by ambulance to Newnan Piedmont Hospital, Coggin said.
