Three children and two adults were injured after a crash on Highway 278 in Hiram. One child died from his injuries.
The Georgia car accident occurred on Monday, August 1 at about 6:37 a.m. on Highway 278 at Lake Road. The children were riding in a Nissan Altima driven by 26-year-old, Tameka McNeal of Memphis, Tennessee. Ms. McNeal made a left turn into the path of a Ford pickup truck. The truck struck the Nissan in the right rear side.
All the children were properly restrained, but this did not provide enough protection from the impact. The children sustained serious injuries.
Eight-year-old Desiree McNeal and her brother four-year-old Trenton McNeal were airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Their brother, 6-year-old Derrick McNeal, was not stable enough to be airlifted. He was taken to WellStar Paulding Hospital where he died from his injuries.
Both drivers sustained minor injuries.
The accident is still under investigation and the cause of the Paulding County accident has not been determined.
The attorneys and staff at Shane Smith Law would like to offer our condolences to the McNeal family.
