On February 6, 2013, a fatal bicycle accident in Cobb County occurred late Wednesday afternoon around 4:00 p.m. According to Cobb County police, the male bicyclist, from Woodstock, Georgia, was killed in the collision that involved a sports utility vehicle (SUV).

Police stated that the bicyclist died of his injuries at the accident scene. After an initial investigation, it was determined that the bicyclist lost control of his bike and rode into the path of a vehicle. It seemed as if the bicyclist was traveling southbound on Bells Ferry Road on the sidewalk alongside the northbound lanes when he lost control. When he lost control he entered the roadway and rode into the path of the SUV, according to police spokesman Officer Mike Bowman. The fatal crash involving the bicyclist and vehicle took place in Acworth.

A silver 2006 Nissan Xterra driven by 29-year-old Amanda Neill, of Lilburn, struck the bicyclist; however, police do not expect to charge Ms. Neill for this fatal crash. Ms. Neill was not injured in this collision.

The bicyclist was later identified as 42-year-old Timothy Austin of Woodstock. Police are still trying to figure out why the bicyclist lost control, and is asking anyone with information about this crash to call Cobb police at (770) 499-3987. This investigation remains open by Cobb County police at this time.

Shane Smith Law extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends who are grieving the loss of Mr. Austin.
