A fourteen-year-old boy from Covington sustained serious injuries after he was struck by a pick-up truck in a Georgia pedestrian accident.
The accident happened just before 6 p.m. on Friday, August 6. The young man was jogging home from a nearby store. The boy was running south on the paved shoulder of the road between the white fog line and the grassy shoulder on Georgia Highway 81 near Livingston Elementary School just south of Porterdale. He was hit by a southbound 1994 Dodge pickup truck that was slowing for traffic ahead. The road was wet at the time and slippery road conditions may have contributed to the accident.
The fourteen-year-old accident victim was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston for treatment of a head injury. He remains in critical condition.
The driver of the pickup truck has been identified as 17-year-old Austin Weeks of Covington, Georgia. The accident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
