Coweta County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Ross was honored recently by the Union City Elks Lodge #1167 in appreciation of his heroism and valor.
On Sept. 10, 2011 Deputy Ross placed his own life in danger saving a mororist that was involved in a two-vehicle head-on crash.
When Deputy Ross arrived on the scene, one of the vehicles was engulfed in flames. The driver was trapped inside and he was unable to put out the fire with his fire extinguisher.
He pulled the victim from the vehicle and with the help of another motorist they were able to get her to the shoulder of the road.
Deputy Ross rendered assistance to the victim until the EMC units arrived.
Had it not been for Deputy Ross’s courage and disregard to his own safety, the driver would have perished in the flames.
The name of Deputy Ross has been submitted to the Georgia Elks Association for consideration of the Peace Officer of the Year Award.
