Driver Charged With Vehicular Homicide in Gwinnett Pedestrian Accident

The driver who backed over a child in a Gwinnett County parking lot accident has been charged with misdemeanor vehicular homicide.

On September 17, 2011, Tekila Mynon Glass, 30, of Riverdale was backing a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica through the parking lot at Lenora Park near Snellville. Her vehicle hit a stroller, which contained one-year-old Olivia Anne Hellwig. Hellwig was critically injured and was taken to Children's Healthcare at Egleston in Atlanta, where she later died. Her mother, Brooke Hellwig, sustained minor injuries.

The Gwinnett County Police Department conducted an investigation of the Georgia pedestrian accident and determined that Glass was at fault for the death. Alcohol is not considered to be a factor. Glass was charged with misdemeanor vehicular homicide and improper backing. She turned herself in at Gwinnett County Jail and was released after posting bond.

Atlanta pedestrian injury attorney Shane Smith would like to offer his condolences to Olivia's family.
