On May 15, 2013, one woman was killed and her son was critically injured in a Cobb County car crash. According to officials, the crash involved three vehicles and occurred around 12:53 p.m.
Delores Sibert, of Hiram, was driving eastbound with her son in a 1995 Toyota Avalon on Dallas Highway when she attempted to turn left into the Village Green Shopping Center parking lot, said Sgt. Dana Pierce, spokesman for the Cobb County Police Department.
During Sibert’s left-turn attempt, a silver 2005 Nissan Titan pickup truck struck her vehicle. The truck was traveling westbound on Dallas Highway and struck the passenger side of Sibert’s car, causing the vehicle to spin and hit a 2004 Toyota Sequoia SUV. The SUV that was struck was sitting at a traffic light waiting to turn out of the shopping center parking lot onto Dallas Highway.
Emergency crews took Sibert, 46, and her 14-year-old son to WellStar Kennestone Hospital; however, she later died of her injuries. Her 14-year-old son was later flown to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston in critical condition.
Police stated that both the pickup truck driver and SUV driver were not injured in the wreck and have been identified as 35-year-old Desmond Smith, of Hiram, and 44-year-old Larry Crowson, of Marietta.
Police have not filed charges at this time.
Shane Smith Law extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Delores Sibert. We also extend our best wishes to her son for a complete and quick recovery.
