Police are searching for the driver who left the scene of a fatal chain-reaction crash in Monroe County.
The Monroe County traffic accident occurred at 9:46 p.m. on Sunday, August 14 on I-75.  A Dodge Dakota travelling south near Pearidge Road was struck by an identified vehicle.  The impact caused the Dodge to crash into a rollback wrecker. The wrecker, in turn, struck a Buick Regal.  Both vehicles went over the guardrail and overturned onto the median where they burst into flame.
The driver of the Buick died at the scene.  He has not been identified and police turned the body over to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta for help in finding the man's identity.
The other two drivers were rescued by emergency workers and taken to the Medical Center of Central Georgia for treatment of injuries.  They are in stable condition.
Victims of hit-and-run accidents often face difficulties getting insurance compensation for their injuries. An Atlanta accident injury attorney can help.
