Teen Dies in Monroe ATV Accident

A 15-year-old girl from Walton County girl has died after losing control of the all-terrain vehicle she was driving.

The fatal Georgia ATV accident occurred on Sunday, September 11 at about 1:12 p.m. Madison Elizabeth Young of Monroe was riding the ATV with her best friend, 15-year-old Katie Kennedy of Monroe. Katie was driving the 2002 Honda Rancher on Mount Ena Road when she hit a ditch. The vehicle overturned and hit a tree; the teens were thrown from the ATV.

Neither girl was wearing a helmet. Madison, a sophomore at Loganville High School, was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta where she died from her injuries. Katie was taken to Atlanta Medical Center.

In 2009, 376 people died in ATV accidents. More than 16% of the victims were children under 13.

Madison Young was a soccer player who was known for her outgoing personality. It is truly a tragedy for such a promising life to end so soon. Atlanta accident attorney Shane Smith would like to offer his condolences to Madison Young's family.
