MOULTRIE — A teenager was injured on Christmas Eve morning in a one-vehicle accident on Cool Springs Road.
Jameil Melvin, 18, of Moultrie, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Equinox east-bound on Cool Springs Road at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, the Georgia State Patrol said. He apparently fell asleep, the GSP said, and the Equinox left the roadway on the north shoulder.
The vehicle vaulted a private driveway, overturned and came to rest on its right side in the ditch on the north side of the road, the GSP said.
The GSP report said Melvin suffered a head injury and was transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville by Colquitt County EMS. Archbold, however, said it had no patient by his name. Colquitt Regional Medical Center confirmed that Melvin was seen by an ambulance crew, but he was not treated at CRMC, a hosptial spokeswoman said.
Under federal privacy law, hospitals must withhold information about patients — including whether they have been to their facility — if the patient or his representative has not signed a waiver.
