Two men were killed in a high-speed Georgia car crash involving a Gwinnett County Transit van and two passenger vehicles.
The fatal car accident occurred on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at about 9:15 p.m. The driver of a red Pontiac Firebird was speeding on Beaver Ruin Road near Beaver Parks Drive in Norcross when the Pontiac clipped another vehicle and crashed head-on into the transit van.
The car was totaled and the bus sustained significant damage to its front end.
Both occupants of the Firebird died.  One young man died at the scene. The other young man was trapped in the vehicle.  He required CPR before being transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville where he died from his injuries.
There were no passengers on the bus and no one else was injured.
The accident is still under investigation, but it is believed that the car crash is due to the high speed at which the Pontiac was travelling.  Speeding is a factor in nearly one-third of all fatal crashes.
