A woman has lost her leg after being by Cobb Community Transit in an Atlanta pedestrian accident.
The Georgia traffic accident occurred on Wednesday, January 19. Fifty-five-year-old Ruby Rhodes stepped into the crosswalk at the Hamilton E. Holmes MARTA station in southwest Atlanta just as a bus was turning into the intersection of Hamilton E. Holmes Drive and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
The bus had a green arrow and the woman crossing in opposition to the light.  As the bus turned, the woman was hit by the rear portion of the bus and fell to the ground.
Ms. Rhodes was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. She lost her leg and foot and has been upgraded to stable condition.
The bus driver has been removed from service during the investigation of the accident. At this time, no charges have been filed against the bus driver.
According to witnesses, Rhodes sped up to try to avoid the bus.  Bus passengers yelled at the driver as he approached the victim, but he kept going even after Ms. Rhodes was struck.
Shane Smith Law offer our well wishes to Ms. Rhodes.
