Wrong-Way Driver Dies & Injures Another in Sandy Springs Crash

An early morning crash occurred on August 24, 2012, on GA 400. According to authorities, the Sandy Springs auto accident took place at Roberts Drive on GA 400 southbound. Sadly, one driver was killed and another person was injured in this wreck.

Sandy Springs police have indicated that a female wrong-way driver caused the collision that killed her and injured the male driver that whom she collided with. The male driver is B 98.5’s Kelly Stevens of the Vikki and Kelly Show. He was on his way to work when the wrong-way driver caused him to crash.

Stevens was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for medical care; he later spoke to his cohost on the radio and he told her and their listeners that he “was getting in the left lane and all of a sudden I just looked up and there were headlights, and it was a wrong-way driver.” He told listeners that his car rolled because he swerved hard to avoid the wrong-way driver, as he had almost no time to react.

Stevens suffered a broken leg and a broken arm but is in stable condition. However, the wrong-way driver didn’t make it. She has been identified as 22-year-old Carlyn Emily Royball, of Alpharetta. She worked at Taco Mac in Alpharetta and was a graduate of Milton High School.

Sandy Springs police are investigating the crash caused by the wrong-way driver. They are looking into where Royball entered the highway going the wrong direction and if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Our Atlanta auto accident attorneys at Shane Smith Law would like to offer our best wishes for a full and fast recovery to Kelly Stevens and our deepest sympathies to Royball’s family and friends.
