Preparing For Emergencies: Five Tips That Can Help Your Child After An Atlanta Car Accident

Atlanta car accidents can happen at any time.  No matter how careful of a driver you are, you can't prevent every car accident.  But, you can be prepared. There are many things that you can do to protect your child in the event of an emergency long before an Atlanta automobile accident occurs.

1. If you have a smartphone, download an app that will let you keep a record of your child's health history, including height, weight, medications, health conditions, previous injuries, allergies, and your pediatrician's name and contact information.  You may think that you'll remember the important information, but if your child is injured, you'll have other things on your mind. This is especially important if your child has special needs or uses multiple medications. You should also write down this information and keep one copy in your glove compartment and one in your diaper bag.  You may also want to provide a copy to any babysitters or childcare providers.

2. Provide your caregivers with written consent authorizing emergency medical treatment for your child.

3. If your child has serious allergies, talk to your doctor about getting a medical alert bracelet.  This will let healthcare providers know which medications to avoid.

4. Take a CPR class.  It takes time for emergency responders to get to the scene of an Atlanta car accident.  In the event of a serious injury, knowing CPR could save the life of your child.

5. If your child has special needs, you may want to schedule a visit with the director of the emergency room at your chosen hospital.  He may be able to have your child's information and needs in the computer in case your child is ever admitted.
