Katie Wooten
Attorney
Katie Wooten became an attorney to gain the skills necessary to make a tangible and positive difference in people’s lives. Her passion for advocacy took root while attending Wake Forest University School of Law, where she worked with former service members through the Veterans Legal Clinic. That experience of building personal connections with clients and fighting to right the wrongs they had endured cemented her commitment to pursuing a career in personal injury law. At Shane Smith Law, Katie continues to advocate for individuals during some of the most challenging times of their lives, ensuring they are treated as people first, not just as cases.
Katie’s professional background gives her a unique perspective on the personal injury process. During law school, she interned with a company that provided medical funding for injury cases, allowing her to gain valuable insight into the intersection of medical care and legal recovery. This experience helps her guide clients through their treatment options with both empathy and informed understanding.
Known for her persistence and her ability to truly listen, Katie believes that one of the most important qualities a personal injury attorney can possess is the ability to hear and understand clients’ stories. She recognizes that for many injured individuals, feeling heard is the first step toward healing. Her empathetic approach builds trust and strengthens the attorney-client relationship, allowing her to better advocate for fair outcomes and meaningful recovery.
Katie also takes pride in staying informed and current in her field. She actively follows legal news sources, monitors developments in the North Carolina General Assembly, and leverages legal technology to ensure her clients benefit from the most up-to-date information and strategies.
Her legal philosophy is rooted in compassion and the belief that people, not cases, should always come first. She shares the firm’s commitment to prioritizing clients’ recovery and overall well-being before focusing on case resolution. This alignment allows her to advocate from a place of genuine care, helping clients not only achieve justice but also rebuild their lives after injury.
A strong sense of justice drives Katie’s work. She believes every client deserves a voice and a dedicated advocate to protect their rights and ensure they are made whole after being wronged. This commitment defines her practice at Shane Smith Law and motivates her to deliver the best possible results for each client she represents.
Outside the office, Katie enjoys winding down with Netflix or crocheting. Her weekends often include taking walks, baking, or meeting friends for dinner. She also has a history of community involvement. During law school, she served on the board of Women in Law and helped organize a mock trial program for local Girl Scouts, an organization that inspired her as a child.
Katie is a member of the Wake County Bar Association. She graduated from Wake Forest University School of Law, where she earned recognition for receiving the highest grade in her legal research class, served as an editor for the Wake Forest Journal of Law and Policy, and was named an excellent initial editor for her editorial work.
Through her compassionate approach, attention to detail, and steadfast advocacy, Katie Wooten is dedicated to helping clients navigate their recovery and achieve justice, one case and one person at a time.
