DUI Driver Switches Seat With Passenger

According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 2,597 people were killed in United States traffic accidents in December 2010. Of those, 775 deaths involved alcohol-impaired drivers. A 2006 study by the NHTSA estimated that there is one drunk driving fatality in the United States every 30 minutes.

A 23-year-old Georgia man who allegedly tried to avoid arrest by switching seats with his passenger was charged with DUI.

The man called attention to himself when he exhibited speed by fishtailing from a stop sign. When he was pulled over by police the driver switched seats with his passenger. But when the officer requested the passenger’s identification she told the officer about the switch.

According to the police report the driver was arrested for DUI, open container and exhibition of speed. The driver had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.105. Officers found an open bottle of whiskey and a 12-pack of Bud Light with several beers missing.
