The First Full Work Week of the New Year
Last week marked the first real full work week of the new year, which is always an interesting time. This is when New Year’s resolutions officially kick in, motivation is still high, and people are trying to reset after the holidays.
I even noticed one of the gyms where I work out with my dad promoting a “New Year, New You” program starting later this month. You can tell this is the season when gyms are packed. My dad mentioned that on Monday and Tuesday, the gym was absolutely slammed. But by Saturday, when we worked out together, attendance had already dropped off noticeably. That drop happened fast.

New Year’s Resolutions and Reality
It makes you wonder what most people’s New Year’s resolutions really are and how long they last. I have heard that the majority of people abandon their resolutions by January 20 or 21, especially when it comes to working out or eating better. I do not know if that statistic is perfectly accurate, but based on gym traffic alone, it feels believable.
Getting Back Into a Routine
For me, last week was about getting back into my normal routine. I returned to my usual diet and workout schedule. I was hoping the Christmas weight would fall off quickly, but that did not quite happen. Turns out it was not all just sugar sitting in my bloodstream after all.
That means a little extra effort is required. My goal is to have the holiday weight gone by the end of February, if not sooner.

Starting Jiu-Jitsu and Physical Growth
I also started going to jiu-jitsu. One of my business coaches strongly recommended adding a physical combat sport into my routine. The reasoning was simple. I sit behind a desk most of the day, and I need something that forces me to move differently, engage physically, and challenge myself in a new way.
So far, it has been humbling and very different, but I can already see the value. It is something I will need to grow into, but it feels like a good addition to this year’s reset.

Mental Focus and Studying Neville Goddard
On the mental and spiritual side, I have been studying the works of Neville Goddard. His philosophical writings from the 1920s focus heavily on abundance, scarcity, and controlling your thoughts. In many ways, his work feels like a precursor to ideas such as the law of attraction, but with a stronger emphasis on personal responsibility.
Being intentional about your internal dialogue, avoiding constant self criticism, and controlling your mindset have been useful concepts as I think about how I want to approach this year.
Spiritual Direction for the Year Ahead
Last year, I completed the Bible in a Year podcast, which walks through the entire Bible over twelve months. I finished that toward the end of the year, so now I am deciding what spiritual focus makes sense for this year.
I am considering an apologetics style book that explains Scripture through historical evidence and factual support. It is broken into about 48 lessons, which works out to roughly one lesson per week. That feels like a manageable and meaningful rhythm.
Time at the Ranch and Property Updates
Even with rainy weather during the week, we still found some bright spots. We went out to the land, what we usually call the ranch, and drove around for a bit. We walked the pond and discovered something we did not even know existed.
There is an overflow valve installed at the pond, likely put in by the previous owners. It appears adjustable based on water level, allowing excess water to drain if the pond gets too full. We did not have tools with us to test it, but knowing it is there brings some peace of mind. We will definitely take a closer look at it soon.
House Planning and Infrastructure Progress
Planning for the house continues to move forward. We are meeting with the architect again next week to keep refining the plans.
At the same time, we are still working with the county on extending the water line. That process has taken about six months so far. It has been slow, but it is moving, and progress matters.
Looking Ahead to the Year
This time of year is always exciting for me. I enjoy sitting down and thinking about where I want to be by the end of the year. That includes personal goals, spiritual growth, health improvements, and business development.
On the business side, it means focusing on how we can continue improving our services, helping more clients, hiring the right people, and building something that is both sustainable and meaningful.
I hope everyone had a great start to the new year and is hitting the ground running this January. It is a powerful time to set goals, build momentum, and move intentionally toward where you want to be.
Until next week,
Shane
