Know Your Rights If You’re Hurt at Work
Hey, I’m Shane with Shane Smith Law. Today, I want to talk to you about what happens if you get hurt at work and what your rights are.
If you’re injured while doing your job, your employer should be responsible for your medical care. That applies not only when you’re hurt at the workplace, but also when you’re hurt while doing work-related tasks away from the job site.
For example, if you’re driving to pick something up for your boss, running an errand for work, making a delivery, or traveling as part of your job and you’re injured, that is still considered a work-related injury.
In those situations, your employer’s workers’ compensation insurance should cover your medical bills. That includes emergency room visits, doctor appointments, testing, and follow-up treatment.
Your employer should also provide you with a panel of doctors to choose from for ongoing care.
The key thing to remember is this:
If you were hurt while working or doing work-related tasks, your medical care should be covered.
If your employer or their insurance company is not paying for treatment, or if you’re unsure what to do next, that’s something you should look into right away.
