Recently, a late-night accident caused by a flat tire slowed traffic on I-75. The accident was exacerbated when an SUV struck the car with a blown tire. Emergency vehicles responded to the accident and traffic slowed.
Approximately 20 minutes after the initial accident, while traffic was slowly moving past the accident scene, a tractor-trailer crashed into the two vehicles in the initial accident. According to police, the truck driver was likely distracted and did not slow as he approached the accident scene. The truck made contact with seven other vehicles, including two other tractor trailers, a U-Haul truck, a Ford truck, and three cars. The big rig accident caused four deaths and 13 injuries. An investigation by the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is ongoing.
