An Emory University student was seriously injured in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on North Decatur Road. The Atlanta pedestrian accident happened at about 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 13. Olivia D’Angelo was trying to cross North Decatur Road at Emory Village near the main entrance to Emory University. She was struck by a blue SUV at the corner of North Decatur Road and Oxford Road. According to witnesses, the female driver of the SUV stopped and looked at D’Angelo who was lying on the ground, then she got back in the SUV and drove away. The Emory University Police Department responded to the accident. D’Angelo was taken to a nearby hospital where she underwent six hours of surgery to repair a compound fracture in her leg. She is in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. D’Angelo is a cross-country runner at Emory University. Last year, she made the school’s varsity squad, which reached the NCAA Division III Championships. It is not known if the injury will affect her place on the team.
