So, this week we sort of recovered from graduation, having all the company over, and then on Sunday we drove down from Charlotte to Atlanta. We’re sort of shifting towards spending more time there during the summertime. Sam went ahead of us with Robin, and then we got there on Sunday. I went to the Atlanta office where we’re having some growing pains. The Atlanta office is very tight on space. I’d actually given up my office to put some other staff members there and I was working out of the conference room. I am looking forward to getting another office back in the Peachtree City space. We’re just rearranging some folks, so that should be set up soon after I get back from my trip. We’re excited about that.
Sam had just chipped a tooth when Robin headbutted him. Somebody came to the door, Robin got excited, jumped out of the bean bag where he was sitting, where Sam had been petting him, and caused Sam to knock his teeth together and he chipped a tooth. He went to the dentist. So, they were working on that issue before we went to Japan, sort of get it under control with our local dentist, the one we’ve been using for a long, long time.

Noah was coming down to Atlanta as well, but he stayed up in High Point a little while to deal with the roofers and all of that. Unfortunately, before they could repair the roof, it rained and stormed again which knocked the tarp off. So, we got some more water damage in the house where the boys live. It came in through the ceiling and hit some of the Sheetrock. So hopefully, it’s just a little bit of cosmetic damage, but we don’t know right now, and won’t until they start repairing it. So that was an issue as well. But all of that should be moving along. We’re hoping it moves while we’re out of town in Japan, but we’ll wait and see. My sister-in-law said she would talk to the adjuster, so we were happy about that. And then the roofer we have is one of those kinds of roofers that will talk to the adjuster, so we don’t have to get involved.
While we were in Peachtree City, we saw my folks, we celebrated an early Mother’s Day with my mom before we went to Japan, and we had a low boil. My dad cooks that with shrimp and crab legs. That was really good. On Friday, I went to Ted’s with Noah, my brother, my mom and dad. I like to eat with them on Fridays when I’m in town. Also, something we noticed is the plants we planted are doing really well. We had left some with my mother to take care of, and then we also just moved some outside underneath the sun, the rain, and the weather. They’re growing pretty well.

So, we were able to do that and then it was just getting ready for our Japan trip. Making sure we had everything, making sure the travel visas were good to go, making sure we’d coordinated with a travel agency we’re going through. And I think just getting everything together and ready and packed. It’s really the first big-time we’ve traveled to another country when we weren’t part of a group with other people.

If you read the newsletter, you know I went to Cuba late last year, but that was with EO, our entrepreneurs’ organization. So, they planned the whole thing. All we had to do was show up and get there. This was our first time traveling to another country with sort of just our family. So, some stress about that. We had to fill out the travel visas, fill out all the paperwork, and book the flights. It was a long flight. It was 14 hours. What I found most interesting was once we got on the flight, they served dinner early. Because we got on the flight at like 9:30, in the morning but they served sort of a late-night meal, and then when we were getting off the plane right before then, they served like a breakfast style meal. So that was really weird.
It’s a 14-hour flight. You also lose a lot of time. So, we left at 9:30 in the morning and we landed at 1:30 or 2:00 o’clock Japan time, but it was super late for us. We were super tired the first day. I think I actually went to bed about 8:30 Japan time, which I just tried to stay up late to sort of get my schedule on more of the Japanese schedule. Next week we’ll be talking a little bit about the whole Japan trip.
And I think that’s everything that happened this week. So, it was just a busy week preparing for our trip. What I do find amazing is anytime you go on vacation, it seems like you can spend a week just getting ready for vacation. You go on vacation, and then when you get back, it takes you a week to unpack and sort everything out. So, it’s kind of weird how vacations sort of grow and envelop over a time period for one week or so, but this is a big one we’ve been looking forward to. We tried to go last summer, but scheduling wise it just didn’t work. We were going to be going in August, which is a very, very hot and humid time of year for Japan. And once we figured that out, we sort of moved this vacation to May of this year with the boys. So, it should be a great trip, and look forward to updating everybody on that as well. Stay safe out there and remember, if you are in pain, call Shane!
