Playground Safety Week Reminds Schools to Maintain Georgia Playgrounds

Did you know that more than 200,000 children are injured on America’s playgrounds every year and treated for injuries? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, this playground accident and injury statistic represents children through age 14.

Georgia playground accidents and injuries can happen anywhere from school playgrounds to city parks, or even at play structures found at restaurants and fast food franchises. This is because hidden dangers are lurking on many playgrounds due to defective equipment, failure to maintain playground equipment, or lack of safe flooring.

Because of these dangers, the National Safety Council has dubbed the week of April 21-27, 2013, National Playground Safety Week. Although many schools and cities have addressed the growing problem of playground injuries, some schools, restaurants, and even cities have neglected to maintain their playground equipment. Additionally, some playgrounds aren’t even equipped with the proper safety-surfacing under swings, monkey bars, or other equipment.

In order to reduce playground accidents in Peachtree City, Norcross, Roswell, Atlanta, and throughout Georgia, communities, schools, and organizations are urged this April to inspect their playgrounds for hazardous conditions. If rusty equipment or other dangerous equipment is found, repairs should be made or old equipment should be removed to keep children safe.
