How can I Keep my Child Safe in his or her Car Seat?
You can keep your child safe by following these guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics:
- Keep infants and toddlers in a rear-facing car seat until they are 2 years old or have reached the highest weight or height limit of their car seat.
- Use a forward-facing car seat for children older than 2 years old as long as possible, keeping them in the seat until they outgrow the height or weight limits.
- Use a booster seat in children who have outgrown their car seats. They should stay in a booster seat until the car’s seat belt fits them properly, which usually happens between 8 and 12 years of age.
- Children under the age of 13 should ride in the backseat and be properly secured.
