A horse has been put down after causing a car-horse motor vehicle accident on December 27, 2010. The horse got loose and was hit by a car on Georgia 92 near Rivers Road in Fayette County. The driver was not injured, but the horse had to be put down after the accident.
Last week, in a separate accident, a Sylvania woman was injured when she struck two horses on DeKalb County Road 88. Thirty-two-year-old Haley Wright was driving a 1993 Pontiac east when she encountered the horses on the road. She tried to swerve to avoid the horses, but was not able to do so. Haley was flown by LifeSaver helicopter to the Women and Children's Center in Huntsville.
When accidents are caused by animals, liability for the accident may be hard to determine. In these cases, both the driver and the horse owner sustained property damage. Who is responsible would depend on the circumstances of the accident.
