Tragic Accident: Two Boys Dead After Athens Tractor-Trailer Crash

Best friends, Evan Escoe and Samuel Hart are dead after a Georgia tractor-trailer accident on U.S. Highway 411.
The accident occurred on Friday, June 3, 2011.  The ten-year-old boys had made plans to go swimming at Sandy Creek Park in Athens and then camp out in Samuel's backyard.  But their plans and lives came to an end when a semi-truck rear-ended the car they were riding in.
Samuel's mother, Elisha Hart, was driving along U.S. Highway 441 The boys were in the back seat talking about going to middle school together in the fall.  Mrs. Hart slowed down as the car ahead of her turned into a business and her vehicle was slammed from behind. When the truck hit the back of the car, Evan was killed instantly.  Samuel suffered severe head trauma and was flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite by helicopter.  He died the next day.
Mrs. Hart and her other son, Carter, 8, were injured. All four were buckled up, but the truck caused so much damage that seat belts were unable to save the boys' lives.
The truck driver, 57-year-old Thomas Land of North Carolina, was not injured.
The accident is under investigation by the Athens-Clarke Police Traffic Unit.
Atlanta trucking accident attorney Shane Smith would like to offer his condolences to the families of Evan and Samuel.
