Man Jumps Off Bridge To Avoid Becoming An Atlanta Car Crash Victim

A Mableton man was seriously injured after stopping to help another driver on the East-West Connector in Smyrna.
 
The Atlanta pedestrian accident occurred early on the morning of Saturday, May 21. Martreece Tyson was driving on the East-West Connector when he saw a Saturn Vue SUV swerve and crash into a guard rail. He stopped his car, called 911, and went to help the driver of the disabled SUV.
 
As he was headed toward the disabled vehicle, Tyson's car was almost hit by another vehicle.  Moments later, a second car came toward him.  Tyson saw two cars racing towards him and felt he had only two options: outrun the cars or jump over the side of the bridge.  Tyson jumped.
 
He fell 37 feet and landed in a creek.  During the fall, he was still on the phone with Smyrna police.  Miraculously, 
Tyson survived the fall and was able to give the police his exact location. Paramedics were sent to the scene and Tyson was taken to Atlanta Medical Center.
 
Tyson suffered a broken arm and a broken leg.
 
The driver of the SUV was charged with Georgia DUI and failure to maintain in a lane.
