On Tuesday, June 5, 2012, a Bartow County car crash claimed the life of a metro Atlanta father. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the fatal wreck occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Kings Camp Road near Lake Allatoona.
Police said that an Acworth man was speeding at the time of the wreck. They also suspected that Timothy VanHoose, the 33-year-old driver involved in the crash, was driving while intoxicated.
VanHoose was driving a 2000 Ford Focus and struck a 1984 GMC pickup truck in the rear as it was turning, causing it to crash into a utility pole. When the crash took place, 27-year-old passenger William David Hannah, of Acworth, was partially thrown out of the truck and died at the accident scene due to the serious injuries he sustained.
The driver of the pickup truck and another passenger in the truck were injured and taken to Atlanta Medical Center for care. Joseph Long, the driver of the pickup, also of Acworth, is being treated for a head injury but is now stable. The condition of the passenger was not available.
Police indicated that VanHoose also suffered injuries in the crash and was taken to a metro Atlanta hospital for treatment.
The media has reported that VanHoose has previously been arrested in three states for charges including a prior DUI, in addition to other charges. Police are still investigating the crash at this time.
