We recently reported on an Atlanta traffic accident that caused one of the hosts of B98’s morning show – the Vikki and Kelly Show – to suffer serious injuries. In further updates, Kelly Stevens has been talking about the crash that changed his life.
In an interview, Kelly Stevens talked about his commute. He suggested that when you drive the same road at the same time of the day for years, it is easy to do it on autopilot. The morning of August 24th was like any other morning for him as he was traveling south on Ga. 400 on his way to work around 3:00 a.m. However, that morning changed his life.
He stated that he was “merging over to the left lane” when a van next to him flashed its lights at him. Although he didn’t realize until it was too late, the van was warning him of the approaching wrong-way driver. He stated that “from the time I looked over to the van and saw his lights flashing to the time I looked back to my lane of travel, a second went by and the car was there.”
Steven was traveling in a Toyota 4Runner. Upon the head-on collision his vehicle flipped over several times and his airbag went off. He was not wearing his seat belt. He felt “the sensation of just tumbling.” He landed in the back seat of his car on his stomach and was rescued by emergency responders.
He is still recovering from his fractured vertebrae, broken ribs, and shattered arm. He is now out of the hospital but has a long way to go in his recovery. Sadly, Stevens said he is constantly having flashbacks of the accident.
Stevens feels like he is getting a second chance at life and that it is a miracle that he is alive. He just proposed to his girlfriend and is getting married very soon.
Our injury lawyers at Shane Smith Law would like to offer our best wishes to Mr. Stevens for a full recovery, and our condolences to the family of Carly Royball (the wrong-way driver killed upon impact).
