Failure to Yield Causes Fatal Norcross Motorcycle Crash

A fatal Norcross motorcycle accident claimed the life of a Forsyth County man on July 26, 2013. According to the accident report by the Gwinnett County Police, the deadly crash occurred around 6:25 p.m. at the intersection of Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and South Old Peachtree Road.

According to the accident report, the Forsyth County motorcycle rider was traveling north on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, approaching South Old Peachtree Road. At the same time, a driver in a 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder was heading southbound and turned left into the path of the motorcyclist.

As the driver in the Toyota attempted to turn left at the intersection, the 2006 Harley Davidson FLHRI was passing through the intersection at the same time. Unfortunately, the two vehicles collided at the intersection, causing the Harley rider to slam into the passenger side door. Sadly, the motorcyclist died in the crash; however, the driver of the Toyota only reported minor injuries to the right side of his body.

The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Joe E. Vaughn, of Cumming, and information about the Toyota driver has been released as 26-year-old Soo H. Kim, of Norcross. Following this crash, Kim was arrested and charged with failure to yield while turning left and misdemeanor second-degree vehicular homicide. According to the Gwinnett County Police, Mr. Kim was booked on Friday night around 9 p.m. and was out on bond the next day.

Police are still investigating this crash.

The Norcross accident attorneys at Shane Smith Law would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Vaughn during this difficult time.
